At Schuber Mitchell Homes, we believe that building homes is only part of building a strong community. This year, we were honored to partner with the Boys & Girls Club of Joplin for a hands‑on experience called Blueprints for Better Futures—a program designed to help local kids explore real career paths right here in their hometown while making their mark on a home of their own.
Throughout three immersive field trips, Club kids stepped inside the world of homebuilding and discovered what it takes to bring a home to life, from the first handshake to the final walk‑through. Their journey touched every corner of our business: Sales, Operations, and Build.
And at the end? We got to celebrate their accomplishments with a special home reveal and ribbon‑cutting event at 405 Molly Dean, in Joplin complete with a surprise scholarship donation for their futures.
Part 1: Stepping Into Sales — Imagining Possibilities
The first field trip introduced the Club kids to the world of Sales, where homebuilding truly begins.
Our team opened the doors to our Joplin sales center and walked the kids through what it means to guide families on one of the biggest decisions of their lives. They learned how our New Home Specialists help buyers choose the perfect floor plan, understand pricing, and envision their future in a Schuber Mitchell home.
Most importantly, the kids experienced that Sales is about people—listening, asking questions, and helping families feel confident and excited about their new chapter. For many of these kids, it was their first time seeing Sales as a career rooted in relationship‑building rather than just transactions. By the end of the day, they were already dreaming up personalizations they’d love to see in a home… which set the stage perfectly for what came next.
Part 2: Inside the Engine — Discovering Operations
Next, the Club took a deep dive into Operations—the behind‑the‑scenes heartbeat of Schuber Mitchell Homes. During this visit, the kids learned how our teams coordinate schedules, order materials, manage budgets, and keep communication flowing across dozens of active job sites. They saw how many moving parts go into building a single home and just how important teamwork, efficiency, and problem‑solving are to the process.
Our Operations team also walked the kids through several of the real design choices they’d be making that day for a home here in Joplin. Paint colors, flooring, cabinets, countertops—they got to see and touch the materials that would ultimately appear inside a home they helped bring to life. There’s nothing quite like watching a child light up while making design decisions that will become part of a real family’s future. Their creativity helped shape the story of 405 Molly Dean in a way that’s uniquely theirs.
Part 3: Boots on the Ground — Learning the Build Process-1.jpg?width=375&height=250&name=24%20(1)-1.jpg)
For the final field trip, the kids suited up and stepped onto an active job site to explore the Build process. Our builders and trade partners showed them everything from framing to electrical to finishing work. They learned how safety, craftsmanship, and collaboration come together to turn a blueprint into a real place to call home.
One of the most powerful moments came when the builders explained the ripple effect of the construction industry—how many careers, skills, and opportunities are connected to homebuilding. Many of the Club kids saw, some for the first time, a hands‑on career path they could imagine themselves pursuing.
And with the design selections they had already made, the kids could see exactly how their fingerprints would appear in the finished home.
The Grand Finale: A Home Reveal, Ribbon Cutting & A Gift for the Future
To bring this collaboration full circle, we hosted a home reveal and ribbon‑cutting event at 405 Molly Dean—the home the kids helped design. The Boys & Girls Club kids got to walk through the house, seeing their choices brought to life in a finished space. Their excitement was the best confirmation that this project was more than an educational experience—it was a chance to show them that their ideas, voices, and futures matter.
During the celebration, Schuber Mitchell Homes was proud to present the Boys & Girls Club with a $5,000 scholarship donation, supporting the next generation as they grow, dream, and pursue new opportunities. Watching the kids cut the ribbon on a home they helped shape was a moment we won’t forget.
Building More Than Homes — Building Futures
The Blueprints for Better Futures project reminded all of us what can happen when a community invests in its young people. The Boys & Girls Club kids didn’t just learn about careers, they saw them up close, contributed to a real home, and discovered possibilities for their futures right here in Joplin. We’re incredibly grateful to the Boys & Girls Club for partnering with us, sharing their energy, and leaving a lasting stamp on this Southwind Trail home. This home—and this experience—will always be special to us.
Here’s to building homes.
Here’s to building futures.
And here’s to building them together.
